COTABATO CITY, Jan. 19 – Hundreds if not thousands of people from different areas drop by inside the compound here of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to take glimpse of the unprecedented lighting up of the area with tremendous neon nights marking the 3rd foundation anniversary of the regional governance.

BARMM officials led by Chief Minister Ahod “Hadji Murad” Ebrahim kicked off the celebration in meaningful rites on Monday, Jan. 17, lining up various commemorative events that will wind up on Friday, Jan. 21.

President Rodrigo Duterte officially installed the BARMM parliament and bureaucracy on March 29, 2019 but the fete is premised to the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law or Republic Act 11054 in the January 2019 plebiscite, it was learned.

During the celebration launch, CM Ebrahim alongside Senior Minister Abdulraof Macacua and Parliament Speaker Ali Pangalian Balindong delivered messages citing the gains of the BARMM governance in its first three years of interim administration.

Congress and the President extended the lifespan of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), BARMM’s interim ruling body, from 2022 to 2025 in highly debated proceedings. Commemorating officials consider the lifespan extension as an added gain in the BARMM administration’s three initial years of operation.

Composite police, military and decommissioned forces of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front are securing the 24/7 commemorative activities.

They said the BARMM government seat has been attracting more visitors since the start of the celebration, notably at night time when thousands of roses-looking and other spectacular neon lights are switched on. (AGM)
