The Japanese government through its consular office in Davao City has announced its stride in linking up the Mindanao State University-General Santos City (MSU-GSC) and the Kinki University in Osaka to boost cooperation on enhancing tuna production and marketing.

In a communiqué on April 12, Japanese Consul General Miwa Yoshiaki revealed his thrust to build a partnership of cooperation between the MSU-GSC and the Kinki University in Osaka, which he said had “succeeded in establishing a technology to farm a Blue Fin Tuna.”

The MSU-GSC campus administration led by Chancellor Dr. Anshari P. Ali hosted a two-day visit of Mr. Yoshiaki and his party last March 18 and 19, during which the Japanese envoy conducted ocular assessments of the Tuna fishing port in General Santos City and a related laboratory site in the satellite campus.

“My Visit at the fish laboratory last March was very short and I was not able to grasp the necessary information in preparing the framework of this cooperation,” the Japanese diplomat recalled as he asked Chancellor Ali to send his dean and concerned faculty members of the College of Fisheries on April 20.

He said the meeting discussion would provide him further insights on the empirical works and research plan needed for eliciting interest from the Japanese University.

Last March 3, Consul general Yoshiaki and Chancellor Ali jointly hosted a global webinar for the commemoration of the 100th year anniversary of the Japanese Consular Office in Davao City.

In a statement to the Philippine Muslim Today news, Dr. Ali described his campus’ upcoming formal partnership with the Kinki University as “as added feather” in his administration’s thrust on building linkages with academic institutions across the globe.

Upon his investiture as campus chancellor on April 28, 2019, Dr. Ali established the Office of International Affairs to herald in the global scene the MSU-GSC campus operations and build linkages with counterpart universities in the Asian, Western and European regions.

The infant office is headed by Dr. Anderson Anderson Villa, an alumnus of the Philippine-Japan scholars exchange program. AGM
