Marawi City honors The Ranao Star publisher, some 20 others

MARAWI CITY

The local government of the Islamic City of Marawi has honored the publisher and general manager of the longest running community paper in the locality in a simple but formal ceremony held at the Bagumbayan Hall of the city hall complex here on Tuesday, Mar 30.

Bai Rocaya Sumndad Otical Noor Yahya, publisher cum general manager of The Ranao Star, and some 20 other women were recognized by the local government as outstanding Juana and as exceptional members of the society, specifically in their respective chosen fields of expertise.

Sultan Camid Gandamra, city administrator, read the message of Mayor Majul Gandamra who was supposed to lead the awarding ceremony but was not able to make it due to having been found positive of Covid-19 in the weekend.

Sultan Gandamra, also father of the city mayor, instead presented the awards to the honorees.

Founded in 2003 by veteran journalist Masiding Noor Yahya, The Ranao Star is the longest running community weekly newspaper published in the Islamic City of Marawi, Lanao del Sur.

Acclaimed dean of Mranaw journalists, Yahya who is spouse of Bae Rocaya, has also founded Philippine Muslim Today, the country’s first digital newspaper and acts as its president and editor-in-chief. PMT
